Brigham Loses $1.6 Million Sex Discrimination Suit
BOSTON (AP) ―
A federal jury has awarded $1.6 million to a female neurosurgeon who sued
Brigham and Women's Hospital and the chairman of her department for sex discrimination.
The jury in U.S. District Court found Tuesday that
Dr. Sagun Tuli was subjected to a hostile work environment.
Tuli said
Dr. Arthur Day, a nationally known brain surgeon, made numerous demeaning statements to her while she was performing surgery.
Day denied making the statements.
A spokeswoman for the hospital had no immediate comment on the jury award.
The jury found that the hospital retaliated against Tuli for complaining about Day's behavior toward her and other employees.
The trial lasted seven weeks.
