Brockton H.S. Secretary Accused Of Stealing $51K

BROCKTON (AP) ― A former secretary to Brockton High School's athletic director has been charged with stealing nearly $51,000 in gate receipts from sports events.

Police say 42-year-old Sharon Nelligan is scheduled to be arraigned in Brockton District Court on June 23 on a single count of larceny over $250.

Lt. John Crowley tells The Enterprise of Brockton that Nelligan is being charged even though she has repaid the $50,979.

Nelligan worked for the schools since 1996. She resigned on March 25 amid the investigation.

Police say Nelligan was responsible for depositing gate receipts from football and basketball games, but hadn't made one since October 2007.

School officials say tighter controls have been put in place.

Nelligan could not be reached for comment.
