Brockton Police Reopen 1989 Missing Teen Cold Case
BROCKTON (WBZ) ―
Jennifer Fay was a happy go lucky 16-year-old girl from Brockton when she vanished nearly two decades ago. Now her family has new hope they may be able to close this painful chapter.
"It needs to come to an end," says Jennifer's sister, Yvette Churchill. "This has just been going on too long. It's time for me and my family to come to some rest."
A group of private investigators has turned up a new lead. They've put together a team of search dogs, police and emergency management officials who will be combing a park this weekend.
"Unfortunately at this point we're looking for Jennifer's remains. There's no nice way to put that," said investigator Michelle Littlefield. "It certainly breaks our hearts."
She is volunteering through an organization called the Molly Bish Foundation. It was founded by Molly Bish's parents after their daughter disappeared. The group works to protect children and solve cold cases like Jennifer Fay's.
Back when Fay went missing, police thought she was a runaway.
"She wouldn't have done that," says Churchill. "She wouldn't have left us behind like that. We were very close."
Investigators don't want to disclose the exact search location, except to say it is a nearby park.
"This is a place that hadn't really been mentioned to us before, but a couple of people have come forward and said this is a place known to Jennifer."
Fay was babysitting her sister and brother in their Brockton home when she called their cousin to watch them so she could meet with friends.
They haven't seen her since. Her picture is on the
National website for Missing and Exploited Children, along with an enhanced version to show what she would look like now.
