Man Attempts Kidnapping At BU Daycare

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Police are searching for a man that approachedĀ a Boston University daycare center on Tuesday.

According to a BU official, the suspect, described to be in his 30s, approached the center's playground and asked a teacher about taking a child.

When the teacher instructed the suspect to go inside for proper protocol, he took off. "We did have a gentleman about 3:15 this afternoon come to the daycare, making certain inquiries to a staff member who raised some concern to her – enough for her to immediately come to the police station," said Boston University Deputy Police Chief Scott Pare.

Shortly after making the comments, the suspect allegedly fled on foot down Commonwealth Avenue toward the city. Police are now searching the area for a man with an average build, wearing khaki shorts and shirt, with a white baseball cap.

A parent picking up her child said she's concerned about the location of the center's gate. "The danger is that gate is right on the street and the kids are playing right there, and if (a kidnapping) should happen, and a staff member didn't see, the person could open the gate, and that would be real dangerous."

The Boston University Children's Center looks after children of BU employees and students. Kids between the ages of 2- and 6-years old attend the daycare.

Police said no children were injured.
