3 Hurt In Wild MBTA Bus Crash In Revere

REVERE (WBZ) ―

Three people were taken to hospitals after a wild crash involving an MBTA bus in Revere Thursday morning.

It could have been worse, but a quick-thinking passenger grabbed the wheel and steered the bus away from further trouble, the MBTA said.

Transit Authority spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the driver lost control after experiencing some type of medical problem around 8 a.m.

The bus hit a parked car on Malden Street, right at St. Mary Church, before veering on to Washington Avenue. There, it struck three utility poles, a fire hydrant, a tree, a callbox and a sign.

The bus crossed the lawn of a home and came to rest against a guardrail.

Pesaturo said the bus might have hit the church had not passenger Boubekeur Farthi, 38, of Revere, grabbed the wheel and steered it away from the building.

Farthi and the other passenger on the bus were taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, Pesaturo said. They complained of neck and back pain.

The 43-year-old driver was described as disoriented when medical personnel arrived. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
