Early Morning Cambridge Crash Kills 2

CAMBRIDGE (WBZ) ― A car crash killed two people in Cambridge early Sunday morning.

The crash happened on the Alewife Brook Parkway West at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 16 around 5:00 a.m.

State police say Vytautas Narkevicius, 60, of Somerville lost control of the SUV he was driving while trying to turn left onto Route 16. The vehicle hit a light pole in the median, rolled over and landed on a Volkswagen stopped at a red light.

According to state police, Narkevicius and his passenger, Mary Narkevicius, 59, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person in the car, Eduvigs Zayas, 53, was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries.

The three teens inside the Volkswagen were not seriously hurt in the crash.

State police are investigating the crash, but say speed does appear to be a factor. Alewife Brook Parkway West was closed for three hours as a result of the accident.
