BROCKTON (WBZ) ― One person is dead and several other people were hurt when a car crashed into Brockton Hospital Monday afternoon. Now, the driver is talking about what happened.

Jane Berghold, 76, was at Brockton hospital for a consult to start radiation. She was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April.

Berghold said she was going 20 mph in the hospital's parking lot when she tried to take a left and park her car. That's when her Oldsmobile went crashing through the Radiation Therapy Unit entrance and ended up in the main reception area. "The car didn't stop," she said, "and I went right through the doors."

Dr. Mark Vasa, 58, Chief of Radiation Therapy was killed in the crash. According to hospital officials, Vasa was an associate of the Brockton Hospital for the past 20 years.

According to reports from the scene, Dr. Vasa saw the car heading for the main doors and began pushing people to safety.

When the car finally stopped, it was so far inside the hospital, it could not be seen from the outside.

Berghold and a physician were treated and released shortly after the accident. The receptionist was critically injured and medflighted to Mass. General Hospital. Three other employees were also injured. Their conditions are not yet known.

Officials are now looking into how this kind of accident could have happened. "They will try and determine if there were any mechanical difficulties, or whatever from the car," said Chief Ken Galligan of the Brockton Fire Department. "At this point, we don't see it as any intentional act by any means."

Berghold's husband told WBZ the brakes on the car were new.

Meanwhile, Berghold said she is struggling for answers. "An awful lot of confusion…I feel sick to my stomach… I'm shaken inside."
