Patrick Still Weighing Casino Gambling

According to WBZ sources, Gov. Deval Patrick is in favor of some form of gambling.

Massachusetts is the big question facing
Governor Deval Patrick as he returns from vacation. He says he's still making up his mind. Patrick had indicated he'd decide by Labor Day, and says he's close to a decision. But he adds the more he studies the issue, the more complex it gets.
WBZ's Joe Shortsleeve reported two weeks ago that, in private, Gov. Deval Patrick has already decided he will support casino gambling in Massachusetts. It seems the promise of hundreds of millions of dollars of new revenue has Patrick ready to take a chance. (

Speaking to reporters after attending a union Labor Day breakfast, Patrick rejected the notion that moving ahead with expanded gaming would consume his administration at the expense of other projects.
He also said various costly goals for his administration, such as reducing property taxes and adding 1,000 police officers, aren't dependent on the anticipated millions in new revenues casino gambling would provide.
The
Mashpee Wampanoag tribe has purchased land in
Middleboro and plans to build a $1 billion casino there if lawmakers allow it.
