A Waltham woman is dead after the SUV she was driving crashed into the Charles River in Newton Saturday morning.

Police say a 26-year-old Lauren Tsai was driving on Nonantum Road when she lost control of her car after hitting a patch of black ice. The car veered off the road and landed in the river.

Tsai was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nonantum Road was closed for one hour as crews cleaned up and investigated the crash.
