Carmen "The Cheeseman" DiNunzio, the reputed underboss of the New England mob, plans to plead guilty to attempting to bribe an undercover FBI agent posing as a state official to win a $6 million Big Dig contract.
DiNunzio and two associates were charged last year after getting caught in an undercover FBI bribery sting.
The men allegedly tried to pay off an FBI agent posing as a Massachusetts Highway Department inspector to secure a contract to provide 300,000 cubic yards of loam to the Big Dig highway project.
DiNunzio pleaded not guilty in May 2008 to a charge of conspiracy to commit bribery in a program that receives federal funds.
But a change of plea hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday in federal court.
His attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday.
