Cape Teens Sell Dead Cicadas As Jewelry

SANDWICH (WBZ) ― Two teenagers in Sandwich are making use of all those dead cicadas on the Cape this summer.

They're selling them as jewelry.

Katheryn Maloney and Brady Cullinan, both 17, are making earrings and necklaces with the bugs, which have returned to the Cape for the first time in 17 years.

"Some people like them and some get grossed out," Cullinan told the Cape Cod Times. "We get good compliments on them and how unique they are."

They told the paper they've made about 75 earrings and 14 necklaces for the Sandwich Farmers' Market and charged $10 each or per pair.

They've made about $210 so far.

The market is open for business every Tuesday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
