Clinton Assassination Joke Garners Apology In N.H.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) ― The chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party has apologized to Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton for joking about them being assassinated.

Cullen wrote in the humor section of his party's online newsletter last week about the Clintons boarding Air Force One for the last time when Bill Clinton left office. He wrote his pride vanished watching Marines fire a 21-gun salute to the outgoing President and first lady. He said every one of the Marines missed.

Cullen says he can understand why some might find this joke in poor taste. He says he regrets offending anyone.

State Democratic Chairman Raymond Buckley says there is nothing funny about a President's assassination. Buckley has called on Sens. John McCain, Judd Gregg and John Sununu to demand Cullen resign.
