The Coast Guard rescued three people from a tug boat early Friday morning after it caught fire off the coast of Fairhaven.
The 129-foot Canal Deluge was one of two tugs escorting a barge when the crew reported a fire in the engine room around 1 a.m.
A Coast Guard rescue boat was sent to the scene about four miles south of Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven.
"Thankfully no one was injured," said Petty Officer 1st Class John Saunders said in a statement.
"Right now we are really focusing on ensuring the boat doesn't become a hazard to navigation or the environment."
The Coast Guard says it is monitoring boat traffic through the area along with the Army Corps of Engineers, but the disabled tug is not blocking the main channel.
