The lawyer for Megan McAllister, the fiancée of
accused Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff, says the wedding is off.
Robert Honecker confirmed Thursday morning that plans for the August ceremony at the Jersey Shore were being dismantled. He said the engagement itself has not been called off, but there are no plans at this time to reschedule the wedding.
JAIL VISIT, MOVING ON
McAllister
visited Markoff in jail Wednesday evening, for the first time since his arrest. WBZ cameras were there, and noted the young woman was not wearing her engagement ring. McAllister did not speak to the media after her visit, though her attorney told WBZ-TV that the meeting was emotional and that the pair had a "candid, frank discussion."
"She's done it now, and I think she feels good about coming up and seeing him," Honecker said. "But now it's time to move on with other things in her life.
"She's going to take up her life with her friends and her family in New Jersey. I don't expect her to return in the near future."
Thursday morning Honecker confirmed that "moving on" included the cancellation of their planned summer wedding.
THE BACKGROUND
Philip Markoff is charged with the
murder of Julissa Brisman on April 14 at the Marriott Copley Plaza. He is also charged with robbing another woman at the Westin hotel four days earlier. Markoff is a suspect in the robbery of a third woman in Warwick, Rhode Island. He has not been charged in that crime. Investigators say all three women advertised erotic services on Craigslist.
A search of the Quincy apartment that Markoff and McCallister shared turned up underwear belonging to the victims, along with a handgun that is a preliminary match to the Brisman murder.
