$100,000 In Diamonds Stolen From Newton Mall
NEWTON (WBZ) ―
It appears that someone ripped off a high-end jewelry store in Newton of more than $100,000 in merchandise and it took weeks for anyone to notice it.
According to the
Newton Tab, someone swapped out a pair of $87,000 diamond earrings with cubic zirconia at the
Shreve, Crump & Low at The Mall at Chestnut Hill. A $36,000 diamond ring was also replaced and stolen.
The problem is no one knows when it happened.
A certified gemologist came to the store at the end of September and reportedly noticed the fakes.
The paper says the earrings had been ordered in from the Boston store for a customer. Police looked over surveillance tapes but did not see her switch the jewelry.
