Pit Bull Attacks Former Show Horse In NH

SEABROOK, N.H. (WBZ) ― She was an award-winning Arabian show horse known back in the day as Eagle's Crossing.

Sally Bagley calls the 27-year-old horse "Pokey" and she's had her since she was 3 months old.

And with Sally and her niece Robin guiding the way, Pokey has run with the best of them and won. "She's won a few blue ribbons. Not all - but a few," said Sally.

But on Saturday night, police say the neighbor's pit bull slipped its leash, got into Pokey's corral and attacked her. "We're waiting to see how the animal heals and still looking to get a hold of the owner," said animal control officer Jeff Baillargeon, who said the 21-year-old dog owner went straight to police. "He was visibly upset at the time. Wanted to make sure he did everything right by coming to report it."

Sally fights back tears as she describes the 12 stitches in Pokey's neck, the unstichable hole in her shoulder and bite on her leg.

The dog is in quarantine for 10 days, and its owner will pay all of Pokey's medical bills, which Sally said has already reached $1,000.

But Pokey is a winner. "She perks right up again," said Sally. "The vet says that's because of me.

And for winners, the show must always go on.
