Boston police are investigating an attempted abduction in Dorchester on Monday.
12-year-old Elijah Jolly told police he was walking near 663 Gallivan Blvd. on his way to school when a man grabbed his arm and tried to pull him into a vacant lot. "He came out of nowhere and grabbed my right arm and pulled me," Elijah explained. "I pushed him and pulled my arm back."
Elijah was able to shake himself free and run to St. Brendan's School, where he told the principal about the incident.
The seventh grader said the suspect chased him from the empty lot to Florian Hall, where the man fled in an unknown direction.
Elijah described the suspect as a white man in his mid-40s to 50-years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He has salt and pepper facial hair.
The suspect was wearing a leather jacket with red sleeves, blue jeans with faded spots, a black baseball cap, sunglasses and a pair of gray New Balance sneakers.
Elijah's mother said she often reviews with her son what to do if he encounters a stranger.
The 12-year-old's only regret was that he ran into a secluded area and not a busy spot with more people who might have seen him.
Elijah's mother said she will now drop her son off and pick him up from school.
Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call police at 617.343.4335.
