Funeral Held For 2 Kids Killed In Dorchester Fire

DORCHESTER (WBZ) ― A funeral was held Saturday for two children who were killed in a tragic Dorchester fire two weeks ago.

The Zizi family mourned the loss of 9-year-old Rebecca Zizi and 11-year-old Rooben Zizi at the Tabernacle Baptist Church. The children fell victim to a raging fire that broke out on Dec. 28 while the family was sleeping in a three-family home on Bellevue Street.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was caused by a space heater in the room where Rebecca and Rooben slept.

The children's father, Gary Zizi, was able to get the family's 92-year-old great grandmother, his wife and two other children out of the house, but he couldn't get to Rebecca and Rooben in time.

"There was too much fire in the house," said 7-year-old Berlineda Zizi, who first alerted her family to the fire.

Gary Zizi suffered burns to hands and arms while trying to save his family.

The blaze happened just one day after the Zizi family celebrated Rebecca's ninth birthday.
