Firefighters Rescue Girl From Burning Home
DORCHESTER (WBZ) ―
A 14-year-old girl was rescued from a burning home in Dorchester on Thursday evening.
The fire broke out in the basement of a home at 83 Evans Street.
Two 14-year-old twins and an adult babysitter were inside the home when the fire started. One of the children and the babysitter made it out of the home.
When firefighters arrived, the babysitter was outside screaming that a child was trapped inside.
Two firefighters went in on their hands and knees and rescued a 14-year-old girl from a back hallway. "She was not conscious, she was not responding to anything," said Lt. Michael Sameski.
The firefighters carried her across the street to perform CPR.
She was taken to Mass. General Hospital in critical condition. The other child and babysitter were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Lt. Sameski rescued a child from a burning home on Veteran's Day a couple years back.
According to officials, Thursday's fire started in the basement of the Evans Street home. The cause appears to be electrical.
