Arson Suspected In Dorchester House Fire

DORCHESTER (WBZ) ― Arson is now suspected in a huge early morning fire in Dorchester.

It started in a three-family home on Powellton Road around 4 a.m.

The flames shot up thirty feet into the air at one point and caused a second floor balcony to collapse. "It was horrible," said one witness. "The flames just kept burning and burning. They thought they had it under control. They had to pull back and call all the firemen out of there."

All eight people inside were safely evacuated. "It was terrifying," said 13-year-old Karen Morales, a neighbor of the victims. "All I knew was there was a family and children in there and I was worried about, you know, if somebody was dead."

There's no word yet on how the fire started, but arson sniffing dogs were at the scene later in the day.

According to the Suffolk County Registry of Deeds, the building had been foreclosed.
