Man Shot Inside Dorchester School Gym
DORCHESTER (WBZ) ―
A 22-year-old man was wounded after a gunman opened fire at a community basketball game in Dorchester Tuesday night.
Dozens of kids were in the gym at the Marshall School at the time of the shooting.
Police said the man came in and targeted the victim.
"They saw this person trying to pull out a gun," said Boston police superintendent Rafael Ruiz. "They heard at least one gun shot and someone running out of the gym and bleeding."
Police say the victim ran out a side door with the gunman following him and firing off more shots.
The victim was hit in the arm and the leg.
Police found him on a nearby street, but the gunman had fled.
Tynisha Anthony, who was in the school at a meeting during the shooting couldn't believe what was happening.
"I was scared, I was real scared," she said.
Anthony and her co-workers had to stay in the building until police cleared them to go.
"We tried to go through a side door over there and when we tried, they said we couldn't leave," said Anthony. "Everyone had to stay, to be in lockdown in the cafeteria."
The unidentified victim is expected to survive.
Police say this incident could have been a whole lot worse.
"Fortunately no one else was hit by gunfire, at least we are lucky in that sense," said Ruiz.
