A bank in East Bridgewater was evacuated Tuesday morning because of a bomb scare following a robbery.
Police say a white man with tape on his nose walked into the East Bridgewater Savings Bank on Bedford Street, robbed it, and then left a suspicious white shopping bag on the teller's counter and said it was a bomb.
Officers evacuated the bank and no one was hurt.
The State Police bomb squad sent a robot and an officer in a special explosives suit into the building to investigate.
Nothing dangerous was found.
Superintendent of schools Susan Cote told WBZ there are three schools within a mile of the bank, but none of them were locked down. "Schools were alerted
We contacted the bus company through the schools to tell them they may be rerouted a little bit," said East Bridgewater Police Chief John Cowan.
Cowan said he is glad the teller cooperated with the robber and gave him the money. "We want everyone to be safe. I mean, it's not worth anyone putting their life on the line. Just give them what they ask for and let us do our job."
Police say the suspect got away with $8,500.
