Vietnam Vet Killed In Early Morning Hit-And-Run

EASTON (WBZ) ― Easton police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a 58-year-old Vietnam vet Saturday morning.

John McCarthy of Brockton was walking south on Washington Street early Saturday morning when he was hit by a car. McCarthy was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police were alerted of the hit-and-run when someone called 911 about a man lying on the side of the road in the area of 140 Washington Street.

A woman who lives near the crash scene told WBZ's Ron Sanders she was shocked that someone could just hit and person and not stop.

Police say they are looking for a 1996 to 2002 black Infinity QX45 SUV or a Nissan Pathfinder. Police say the vehicle will have front end damage.

McCarthy served two tours of duty in Vietnam after leaving Boston College to enlist, according to a cousin.

Anyone with information about the fatal hit-and-run is asked to contact the Easton Police Department at 508-230-3322.
