Boy Struggles With E.Coli For 3 Weeks
LINCOLN, R.I. (WBZ) ―
A Lincoln, Rhode Island 6th grader is now into his third week of E. coli illness.
"We're scared," says his mother Jaimee Richmond.
"We don't know what to do. We know his kidneys are clear for now."
11-year-old Austin Richmond is among several students at Lincoln Middle School who became sick after eating burgers tainted with E. coli.
It happened during an October school trip to a camp in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The meat has been traced to South Shore Meat in Brockton.
By the time it was recalled, Richmond had already made several trips to the hospital emergecy room.
"He had nauseousness and vomiting. He was not even making it to the bathroom," says his mother.
"He's so active. He's missing his soccer. He's missing all the things that he loves."
The family's lawyer has
filed a lawsuit on his behalf against South Shore Meat.
The same attorney filed a second suit for another family in Marshfield.
In that case, a 12-year-old girl became sick after eating tainted meat from the New York-based Fairbank Farms.
To make matters even worse, Lincoln Middle School is also dealing with an H1N1 outbreak.
A 12-year-old girl with swine flu died over the weekend.
