An elderly woman who hit an elderly man with her car in Melrose over the weekend has lost her driver's license.
86-year-old Virginia Nelson of Malden struck 84-year-old Francis Blomerth of Medford on Main Street Sunday morning.
She stopped after the accident.
Blomerth was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. He was in critical condition Monday.
Nelson has not been charged at this point in the investigation, but she's not allowed to drive for now.
"We took her license as an immediate threat today," Executive Office of Transportation spokeswoman Ann Dufresne told WBZ Monday.
It was unclear whether either Nelson's age or the victim's age were factors in the accident.
It was also not clear whether Blomerth was in a crosswalk or merely close to it.
Several recent accidents involving elderly drivers have renewed calls for special tests.
There will be a public hearing at the State House Tuesday on a bill which would require drivers who are 85 and older to take a road and vision test when they renew their license.
