Cyclist Hit By Police Car Taken Off Life Support

EVERETT (WBZ) ― A man who was hit by an Everett police cruiser while riding his bike Tuesday night has been taken off lilfe support.

Reda Rouf, 19, of Everett, remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. Police had said earlier Thursday that he had died, but they later corrected that, saying they had been given bad information.

An officer was responding to a 911 call in his cruiser when he hit Rouf at Ferry and Glendale streets Tuesday.

Witnesses told WBZ Rouf was riding fast into the intersection before he was hit. The officer helped him immediately after the accident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during their time of grief," police chief Steven Mazzie said in a statement Thursday.

The officer's name is not being released. He has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete. Police say the 911 call was an unrelated incident.
