The Coast Guard says there is no immediate indication that gasoline from the tanker truck crash and explosion in Everett leaked into the nearby Mystic River. Fire Chief David Butler had expressed concern that some of the fuel had leaked into storm drains after the early morning explosion that set fire to at least two triple- deckers and nearly two dozen cars.
Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Amy Thomas says a crew sent to the scene after the accident found no sign of any sheen in the Mystic River or the Island End River, a small inlet that runs off the Mystic.
Thomas says it appears that most of the gasoline disbursed or burned before reaching storm drains that lead to the rivers.
