The backlog in the state police crime lab could force a delay in the trial of Neil Entwistle, the British man accused of killing his wife and baby daughter.
The Boston Globe reports that the crime lab has yet to complete tests on forensic evidence taken from the Hopkinton home where the bodies were found in January 2006.
Entwistle's lawyer says even after the tests are completed, he might ask to have the samples re-tested by a private lab. Elliot Weinstein says given the issues surrounding the state police lab, the defense would have every reason to question the results.
A recent probe into the facility found evidence samples from about 16,000 crime scenes across Massachusetts that were never analyzed.
The Middlesex district attorney's office says it doubts the Entwistle trial -- scheduled to begin in October -- will be delayed because of the problems associated with the crime lab.
