School Official Does Not Want Evolution Taught

WATERVILLE, Maine (WBZ) ― A board director in Maine is urging one school district to drop evolution from its high school curriculum.

Matthew Linkletter claims evolution is a theory that cannot be proven and therefore should not be taught as fact at a school district in Someset County.

The state, however, disagrees. A spokesperson for the Department of Education says evolution is in fact based on a proven science, and its teaching in science classes is mandated by the Maine Learning Results Program.

Linkletter's argument will be heard on May 19.
