Claire Robbins and her daughter say it appeared to happen in slow motion.
They were inside their home on Winthrop Street in Stoneham, watching an excavator tear down the house next door, when the excavator came tumbling back into their home. Robbins says the excavator was at the top of the three family home, when it came toppling over.
It hit the roof over Robbins' bathroom. No one was hurt.
The driver of the excavator says he's grateful no one was hurt.
The house that was being demolished had burned on the Fourth of July. The owner says he has been worried about the vacant building and is anxious for it to be torn down.
People watching say they'd never heard about anything like this.
Dan Chane said, "I walked by and thought 'my Lord it's an awfully unusual way to take a house down,' and then it hit me, (the excavator) was on its side over there."
Everyone agrees it's incredible no one was hurt. Bill O'Brien lives nearby. "I think it's amazing no one got hurt, a miracle really, the people in the house and the operator, incredible."
A new demolition company has been called in and they say the home will be torn down by the end of the day on Tuesday.
