Explosives Found In East Bridgewater Home

EAST BRIDGEWATER (WBZ) ― An East Bridgewater man is being held without bail after police found 35 pipe bombs in his home.

Michael Ambrose, 42, is charged with 35 counts of making infernal devices. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday in Brockton District Court.

Investigators say Ambrose also owns seven rifles and a licensed handgun.

His attorney told reporters Ambrose is a "chemistry buff" who likes to build explosives and had no plans to use them. The bomb squad detonated all of the devices.

Ambrose is married with two children, ages 6 months and 6 years old. Authorities went to his home Thursday evening after receiving a tip from one of his friends who recently had a dispute with him.

The discovery forced police to evacuate three nearby houses. Traffic and pedestrians were diverted away from the normally quiet East Street neighborhood.

Ambrose is the owner of a well-known business in town, "Michael's Landscaping."

He is due back in court next week for a dangerousness hearing.
