Police: Marijuana In Chief's Car Was Grandson's

MARLBOROUGH (WBZ) ― Marlborough police say the marijuana found last week in Newton Fire Chief Joseph LaCroix's city-owned car belonged to his grandson.

A small amount of marijuana was found in LaCroix's car on Aug. 21 by firefighters cleaning the vehicle.

LaCroix, 62, maintained that the drugs were not his. He was never charged and never disciplined by the city.

Marlborough police investigated because that is where LaCroix lives.

Capt. Paul Valianti told the MetroWest Daily News LaCroix and his wife discovered the marijuana when cleaning up after their grandson, who lives with them. It was mistakenly placed in the chief's car when the couple decided to hold on to it and approach their grandson later.

Police are still determining whether to charge Sean LaCroix, 19.

Joseph LaCroix has been with the Newton Fire Department since 1972. He was promoted to chief three years ago.
