Two more Boston fire trucks have been taken out of service as a board of inquiry investigates potential mechanical problems with the vehicles.
The investigation comes after
Ladder 26's brakes failed earlier this month, causing the truck to careen out of control and crash into a downtown apartment building.
Lt. Kevin Kelley was killed in the accident, and three other firefighters were injured.
On Thursday, Engine 22 and Ladder 21 were taken out of service. Officials say one was taken out of service because firefighters were concerned about its safety.
The trucks were replaced by reserve trucks.
It's expected to take several weeks to inspect the entire fleet of trucks. Last week
Ladder 14 was taken out of service for repairs.
Until last week, the Boston Fire Department had been doing inspections on an as needed basis. There was not a preventive maintenance program for the fire trucks. When the firefighters had a problem, they would bring it to the attention to it fixed.
Now the commissioner has said he's going to have an internal review on the entire process.
