Norfolk One Of 'Best School Districts For Buck'
(WBZ)
If you're looking for the best bang for your buck when it comes to schools, Norfolk County is one of the best in the nation. That's according to a new Forbes.com study which ranked the county fourth in America.
Forbes used four factors in its research to find the "Best and Worst School Districts For The Buck" - how much a county spent per student in public schools, SAT or ACT scores, participation rate in those exams, and graduation rates. The study was based on 2004 data.
Marin County, California was tops. The others in the top five are Collin, Texas; Hamilton, Ind. and Montgomery, Md.
Middlesex County was 23rd. Alexandria City, Virginia was last in 97th place.

Forbes said some counties came up with creative ways to report the best results for themselves.
It noted that some high school guidance counselors encouraged poor-performing students to take the ACT instead of the SAT, so the school's overall SAT score wouldn't be hurt.
