Boston Celebrates Fourth With Concert, Fireworks

BOSTON (AP) ― A colorful fireworks display lit the banks of the Charles River where more than half a million people had gathered for July Fourth celebrations.

Friday's festivities featured a flyover by two F-15 Eagles jets and the Rascal Flatts playing some of their hits with the Boston Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart in an event broadcast on CBS.

The concert -- which also featured traditional patriotic songs -- is the Pops' 35th free outdoor show on Independence Day.

Craig Ferguson, host of "The Late Show" hosted the telecast from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Vice President Dick Cheney administered the re-enlistment oath to a group of servicemen aboard the USS Constitution, the Navy's oldest commissioned warship.

"Old Ironsides" also served as a backdrop when more than two dozen Massachusetts residents were sworn-in as U.S. citizens.
