The "teenage" boy who
fell into a lion's den at the Franklin Park Zoo Wednesday is actually a 27-year-old man.
State Police said Thursday that 27-year-old Arnold Milfort of Dorchester was the person who snuck into a movie set at the zoo and fell 30 feet into the pit.
Police say he lost his balance.
There were no animals in the pit at the time he fell.
It had been sectioned off from the public, so that a film crew could use it as a backdrop for "
The Zookeeper," a movie starring Kevin James.
Milfort was taken to Boston Medical Center to be treated for head, neck, and back injuries. He was in serious condition Thursday.
A member of the production crew told State Police Milfort was able to get into the closed set by pretending to be a zoo employee.
So why was he identified as a teenager after the incident Wednesday afternoon?
"Initial estimates by witnesses and first responders that the victim was a teenager were made solely by visual observation," State Police said in a statement Thursday.
"A state trooper was later able to interview Milfort at the hospital, where the victim's identity and age were determined."
Milfort has not been charged at this point in the investigation.
His brother told WBZ's Kathy Curran Thursday that Milfort has 'mental health issues' but would not be more specific.
