Friendly's Express To Debut In Mansfield
MANSFIELD (WBZ) ―
If you like
Friendly's and you like to eat on the run, you might want to head down to Mansfield.
The popular ice cream restaurant, which opened in 1935 in Springfield, is opening its first "Friendly's Express" Wednesday on School Street.
So how is Friendly's Express different from the 500-plus Friendly's around the country?
Here is how they explained it in a statement Tuesday:
"Friendly's Express offers customers everything they love about Friendly's, made faster an average of 25 minutes per visit, versus 45 minutes at a traditional Friendly's. The restaurant features a limited menu of Friendly's favorites."
Friendly's is careful not to call it "fast food." They say it's "fast-casual."
The company says it chose Mansfield for its first Express shop
"because of the nearby office parks and shopping centers, strong residential base, and proximity to highways."
Jim Sullivan, Friendly's vice president of franchising and development, told
The Boston Globe the goal is to open a second express location this year and five more next year.
