Cape 6th Grader Finalist In Google Doodle Contest
Winner Will Have Design Featured On Google Home Page
BARNSTABLE (WBZ) ―
A Barnstable sixth grader is one of the finalists vying to have his artwork featured on Google's home page. Brendan Lynch's drawing is one of 40 selected from 16,000 entries in the Doodle 4 Google contest. He attends the
Barnstable Horace Mann Charter School.
The contest challenged students in K-12 to recreate the Google logo to the theme "What if
" and write a short statement about their sketch.
Brendan's design features a white hand and a black hand reaching for each other, under the American flag. He entitled his design "Hand in Hand," and wrote " What if
the world stops racism, and all people , black and white, and all religions, can join together. Most people think racism has been over for a number of years, but everywhere in the world people are still battling because they are different."
Finalists were judged on their artistic merit, creativity, communication of the theme, and their supporting statement.
The winner of the Doodle 4 Google contest will be selected by online voting, which ends Sunday, May 18.
The winning student will have their design replace the Google logo on May 22, and win a $10,000 scholarship and laptop computer. As a finalist, Brendan has already been awarded a trip to the Googleplex in Mountain View, California and a t-shirt with his logo.
You can vote for Brendan's design on the
Google 4 Doodle voting page.
