N.H. Graduation Party Ends In Armed Standoff
Police Say Student's Dad Fired Rifle
EPPING, N.H. (AP) ―
An Epping, N.H., father was arrested after police said he fired a rifle several times during an armed standoff at his daughter's high school graduation party.
Police say 50-year-old Bruce Richards faces charges of criminal threatening, reckless conduct and negligent discharge of a firearm after the hour-long standoff early Sunday. Members of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, which responds to high-risk incidents, were called to assist state and local police.
About 15 family and friends were attending the party for Richards' 18-year-old daughter, Kimberly, who graduated from Epping High School.
Kimberly denied that her father ever threatened police with a gun, the New Hampshire Union-Leader reported.
Richards surrendered peacefully after the standoff, which involved nearly 20 officers.
