Feds Say Driver's View Not Blocked In Crash

BOSTON (AP) ― Federal investigators say the view of an MBTA trolley operator involved in a fatal accident last week was not obstructed in the moments before the crash.

Peter Knudson, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, says a re-creation of the incident conducted Sunday determined that the driver's view would not have been blocked by trees, glare, or any other obstruction.

Investigators have previously ruled out problems with the track, signals and brakes as possible causes of last Wednesday's accident on the D branch of the Green Line in Newton.

They have also determined that the trolley was moving too fast.

Terrese Edmonds, the operator of a trolley that struck the rear of another trolley, died and a dozen passengers were injured.

The NTSB is still investigating passenger reports that Edmonds was using a cell phone while driving.
