In an effort to curb the recent explosion of violence in Brockton, members of the nation-wide Guardian Angels will descend upon the city.
The Guardian Angels consist of a group of volunteers who act as the eyes and ears for law enforcement in certain cities and neighborhoods across the country.
While the unarmed volunteers don't play the role of police officers, they do report incidents of violence or illegal activity to them. In certain instances, they will make citizens arrests in which they hold the suspect until police arrive to make an arrest.
Brockton has experienced a rash string of violence this year. Last month, a teenager and a cab driver were murdered in separate incidents in the city. An elderly man survived being shot in the back while he was in his own yard on Fairmont Avenue.
Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa hit the streets of Brockton with other members Saturday to determine if the city wants and needs the group to patrol. This isn't the first time Brockton has been on the Angels' radar.
The group attempted to patrol the streets of Brockton in the early 1990s but their efforts didn't take hold.
The New-York based group has chapters set up all over the country.
