A series of brief but severe thunderstorms swept across the state Sunday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and silver dollar-sized hail. There were widespread reports of damage caused by lightning.
A two-alarm fire caused by a lightning strike heavily damaged the Royal Crest Condominiums in Walpole. Fifteen residents were displaced but there were no injuries, officials said.
The first severe thunderstorm alert was issued around 2 p.m. WBZ's Doppler radar showed several areas of Massachusetts were experiencing heavy rain, thunder and hail.

Another series of storms crossed the state from west to east late in the afternoon.
Several WBZ viewers sent in pictures of hailstorms and their ice-covered back yards.

Terry Saunders of Upton said silver dollar-sized hail fell onto his home around 5 p.m.
Conditions for Memorial Day are expected to improve. According to WBZ meteorologists, Monday will be sunny with highs in the mid-70s.
