A Hanover man was ordered held without bail Monday on charges that he kidnapped a 6-year-old girl and put her legs in shackles while attempting to rape her over the weekend.
26-year-old Justin Shine was arraigned on charges of kidnapping, attempted rape, assault and resisting arrest in Hingham District Court.
He was arrested Saturday.
Prosecutors say he lured the girl to an apartment, restrained her and injected her in her hip with an unknown substance intending to rape her before freeing her and slashing his own wrist.
The girl led police officers to Shine's Hanover Woods apartment.
Prosecutor Sharon Donatelle said the girl, a friend of one of Shine's children, was riding her bike when Shine called to her and offered to show her some gerbils and guinea pigs.
The girl told police Shine taped her mouth and arms and shackled her legs.
She said he cut the tape when they heard officers knocking on nearby doors.
Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said Shine was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered in the struggle with police and what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds.
He allegedly told investigators he also used cocaine.
The girl was also treated at a local hospital.
"Hopefully, she's going to be o.k.," said Cruz.
"I'm sure it's going to be a long road for her."
