A party cruise ended in violence Friday and left a Brockton father dead.
State Police say the 41-year-old Brockton man and father was on board the Provincetown II boat that came back from a cruise around midnight Thursday night. There were 815 people on board the boat.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was in a parking lot between
Anthony's Pier 4 Restaurant and the
Institute of Contemporary Art, when he was gunned down.
Boston Police Superintendent Bruce Holloway says investigators haven't determined where the trouble started.
"We know there was a party and a boat, and we're trying to find out if there was an altercation on the boat, and if he was on it, and what took place outside," Holloway said.
State Police Sgt. John Gentile said three to four shots were fired. He said they already had six cruisers at the pier for traffic and crowd control when the boat came in. Despite closing off the area quickly, the gunman managed to escape.
Despite hundreds of people being in the parking lot, witnesses tell police they did not see much. Boston police are now hoping surveillance cameras in the area will help identify the gunman.
"We've seen some video," Holloway said. "It's not very good, and we're looking for more video."
Officials are now asking people who were on the Provincetown II Thursday evening for the
"Outrageous in Red" party to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. They are also interested in obtaining videos and photographs that were taken during the boat ride that may provide useful information to the case.
While police know the victim was on board the party boat, they don't know yet if the shooter was.
Michael Glasfeld of Bay State Cruises, the company that owns the Provincetown II, tells WBZ the boat was chartered last night by a repeat customer he declined to name. Glasfeld said his staff remembers no trouble aboard the boat. He says when the crew was cleaning up, someone heard something that sounded like firecrackers in the parking lot across the water.
