Harvard Professor Among 4 Killed In NH Crash

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (WBZ) ― A prominent Harvard researcher was one of four people killed in a Columbus Day crash in New Hampshire.

Police say 63-year-old professor Stephen Lagakos of Wellesley drove his SUV over the center line and crashed head-on into another car on Route 202 in Peterborough late Monday morning.

Lagakos, his wife, 61-year-old Regina Lagakos, and his mother, 94-year-old Helen Lagakos were all killed.

The driver of the other car, 56-year-old Stephen Krause of Keene, N.H., also died.

It's still not clear what caused the crash.

A spokeswoman for the Harvard School of Public Health said Stephen Lagakos was a long-time faculty member in the school's biostatistics department and was involved in AIDS research.

He and his family reportedly had a second home in Peterborough.
