Hacker Accesses Harvard Info In Data Breach

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A data breach at Harvard University may have affected thousands of graduate students and applicants, the school says.

According to the university, a hacker gained access to the school's server last month. That breach may have not only compromised the information of 10,000 applicants, 6,600 students could have had their social security numbers exposed as well.

The hacker may have also gained access to data records for students at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

The school says it will provide the applicants with free identity theft recovery services and help them with credit monitoring and fraud alerts.

In a statement released by the school, officials say the investigation did not reveal the full extent of the breach.
