Man Accused Of Taking Hostages Tried To Call Gov.

ROCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― A New Hampshire man accused of taking five people hostage at a Hillary Clinton campaign office had called the governor's office the day before.

Colin Manning, a spokesman for Gov. John Lynch, said someone from the Office of Citizen Service returned 46-year-old Leeland Eisenberg's call but did not reach him.

Eisenberg surrendered about five hours after walking into Clinton's Rochester office on Friday. Police said a device recovered afterward that Eisenberg claimed was a bomb turned out to be road flares.

Manning said he did not know why Eisenberg called. He said the call did not cause alarm.

Manning said Eisenberg also reached out to the governor's office in March. At that time, Eisenberg was drawing attention to Rochester police opening the doors of unlocked cars and leaving a flier warning that owners should lock their doors to avoid falling victim to thefts.
