Coast Guard Rescues Man Clinging To Sailboat Mast

HULL (WBZ) ― Clinging to the mast of his sinking sailboat, a Hull man was rescued by the Coast Guard late Wednesday.

Timotej Eclmovic fortunately was only a couple hundred yards off shore in Hull when his 14.5 foot sailboat sank. A witness on shore saw Eclmovic clinging to the mast of the sunken boat, and called for help.

The Coast guard arrived about five minutes later. As you can see in the photo sent to WBZ by witness Craig Goedecke, it was just in time.

"His life jacket definitely helped as he was clinging to the side of his boat," said Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas Lindstrom. "The water temperature was in the high 60's and the closest shore was about 500 yards away. That would have been pretty far for him to try to swim."
