Former Inmate Accused Of Hacking Prison Computer

Man Accused Of Distributing Prison Employee Info To Other Inmates

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A former inmate of the Plymouth County Correctional Facility is accused of hacking into a prison computer and distributing personal information of workers to other inmates.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said 42-year-old Francis G. Janosko was arrested in South Carolina Wednesday.

The indictment alleges that he figured out the password to the prison's computer network and made available to other inmates a report listing the names, birthdates, Social Security numbers, home addresses and telephone numbers of more than 1,100 current and former prison personnel.

Officials say Janosko also figured out how to use the computer to access the Internet an e-mail, which was restricted on that computer.

The indictment alleges that he put together the list of employees' information between October 2006 and February 2007.

He is also accused of obtaining a username and password to an important prison management computer program, which he unsuccessfully tried to log into before he was caught.

Janosko has been charged with one count of intentional damage to a protected computer and one count of aggravated identity theft.

If convicted of the computer charge, Janosko faces up to 10 years in prison followed by up to three years supervised release. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000.
