Marine In Iraq Sees Child's Birth Via Video Feed

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A couple separated by the War in Iraq was able to come together this weekend for the birth of their first child.

Marine Lance Corporal Edwin Paredes is 8,000 miles from Boston in Taqaddum, Iraq. He was deployed in August and has not seen his wife, Yashira Paredes, since.

Yashira was due the day after Christmas, but went into labor on Saturday, and thanks to Freedom Calls, her husband was able to watch the birth of Baby Mia, who came in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Freedom Calls is a public charity that built a satellite network to connect 60,000 deployed troops in Iraq with loved ones in the United States via video conference.
